Dear editor:

The incorporation of Medwave into the database of the highest international coverage, SCOPUS, was recently published in the Journal´s website. The international scientific community in general is surely proud of having reached such long-awaited goal.

In November 2004, Elsevier (Netherlands), one of the most important publishing companies of scientific literature, launched Scopus, the largest database of abstracts and citations of peer-reviewed literature: scientific journals, books and conference proceedings. It delivers a global view of the world production of research in the fields of science, technology, medicine, social sciences and arts and humanities. It also has intelligent tools to track, analyze and visualize research studies.

Scopus interface is designed to provide an overview of the results, which allows researchers to quickly identify relevant information for their research and trends revealed in their thematic areas [1].

Scopus, though distributed by subscription, is available with certain limitations for underdeveloped countries through Hinari [2] in order to improve access to scientific information to institutions in these countries and facilitate free consultation of full texts of thousands of refereed journals with updated information in the health sector.

From now on, Medwave will achieve greater visibility of its scientific production in the area of medical sciences in general and will hold prominent places in the ranking (http://www.scimagojr.com/journalrank.php) of journals compiled in this database. The production of science with quality through the results of research conducted in Chile, Latin America and the world, is a challenge of great significance. A challenge that compels the authors of scientific articles to make them available to the editorial team with the transparency that has characterized them over the years and the requirements for it.

Undoubtedly the peer review process continues to work with more rigor and the kindness that has always characterized the editorial team to strengthen its mission, to help raise the quality of professional practice of medicine in Chile and Latin America setting content update available for doctors and other health professionals, overcoming geographic and economic barriers [3].

Through this letter to you, we also congratulate all the editorial team that enjoys academic and scientific prestige. We want to encourage them to continue with the exquisite and appealing publication of scientific work.

It only remains to join forces for inserting the journal in the SciELO collection; compliance with the requirements is ready and it will be the work of the editorial team which will label it.  With this event the journal will be on the top of scientific production in the territory and the world constituting a new milestone for the medical sciences in the region.
